Piper PA28-235 found, after missing for 20 years

The wreck of Piper PA28-235 N9399W (28-11104) was located in a forest near St Ignace, MI by Michigan National Forest staff 20 years after it went missing. On 14 September 1997 a couple boarded the aircraft to fly VMC from Drummond Island, MI for Howell near Detroit. As its last radar trace was over Lake Huron the US Coast Guard spent four fruitless days trying to locate it. Possibly because of reported low visibility, the pilot deviated from its route heading West until the aircraft crashed into trees and was located Wednesday 11 July 2018 .
